JKPM highlights need for a robust scientific waste management system in Anantnag.
Demands construct of a modern Filtration plant in Seer Hamdan” :- Syed Iqbal
Seer Hamdan, Anantnag, April 16, 2019:- Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) has highlighted the need for a robust scientific waste management system in Anantnag to tackle the problem of garbage dumping in the town. It has also urged the need for construction of a modern Water Filtration Plant in Seer Hamdan town of Anantnag district.
In this connection a delegation of JKPM led by Syed Iqbal Tahir and residents of Seer Hamdan, Anantnag held a protest demonstration at Seer Hamdan on Tuesday against the failure of PHE department to construct a water filtration plant in Seer Hamdan, Anantnag.
Speaking on the occasion Syed Tahir ridiculed the PHE department for its failure to provide filtered drinking water to the inhabitants of Seer Hamdan which is a historic town comprising a population more than 10,000 and is situated just 10 km from district headquarter Anantnag. He said in absence of a filtration plant in the town , the people are forced to drink raw water which oftenly spreads Water borne diseases in the area.
“Water born diseases including Hepatitis has become a common disease among the people of Seer Hamdan ,” Syed Tahir said while demanding construction of a water filtration plant in the town at the earliest. He said during rainy season, the drinking water turns muddy making it totally unsafe and health hazardous .
Later on , JKPM Leader Syed Iqbal Tahir along with delegation met Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Mr Khalid Jahangir and apprised him of this serious matter. Mr Khalid Jahangir assured them to look into this issue on priority basis.
Syed Iqbal Tahir accompanied by the residents of Bakshiabad, Sadiqabad and Qazibagh localities of Anantnag town and unit holders of the Industrial Estate Anantnag also held a demonstration near Industrial Esatate, Anantnag to protested against the dumping of the huge quantity of garbage, collected from various localities , on the road side in the open.
Syed Tahir urged for putting in place a robust scientific waste management in the town adding that dumping of garbage in open causes a risk of an epidemic in the area.” Besides, dumping of garbage on roadsides often becomes the cause of frequent traffic jams which puts traders of the adjoining markets to great inconvenience , “Syed Tahir maintained adding that this practice of dumping garbage on roads has been going on for more than 10 years despite repeated requests by the residents against this inhuman practice.
JKPM leader Syed Iqbal Tahir assured the residents of all help in this regard.
Later on, Syed Iqbal Tahir apprised Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Mr Khalid Jahangir about the matter .
