KERAN MELA CONCLUDES WITH FANFARE

To strengthen the bonhomie between the Army and Awaam and add colours and vibrancy in the life of the villagers residing in the remote areas of Keran Sector, a 15 day sports and cultural show for the people was organised by the Army. The event culminated on 05thOctober 2018 with the Chinar Corps Commander as the Chief Guest.

 Lt Gen AK Bhatt, GOC 15 Corps, attended this mega event on the zero line at LC and felicitated the proud winners of various competitions. The Mela included cultural programmes, screening of movies besides organising sports events like Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, Cross Country and Tug of War competitions for the villages of the Keran Sector. The Mela started with the Cricket Tournament from 19 Sep 2018 to 24 Sep 2018 which witnessed a very active and zealous participation of six teams from various parts of Keran Sector. An Army team also participated in the tournament which further increased the motivation level of villagers and they highly extolled this gesture. The cricket tournament was followed by energy filled and nail-biting Volleyball competition from 27 Sep to 04 Oct 2018 wherein eight teams participated. Other competitions which saw maximum participation with full enthusiasm were Cross Country and Tug of War.  These two competitions again drew enormous viewership and maximum participation by the people. Popular movies were also screened for the locals followed by musical extravaganza by Disco Jockey Group and programmes by Local Singers on 03 Oct 2018. It was very heartening to see groups of local youths dancing and celebrating with Army. The events organised on the culminating day included finals of Volleyball Tournament, Tug of War and games for kids. Distribution of trophies to winners by the chief guest marked the successful culmination of Keran Mela.

            The conduct of Keran Mela generated the goodwill amongst the masses and also provided the villagers a platform to show case their talents. The villagers expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards the Army for providing assistance for successful conduct of Keran Mela.
